The Pride Business Association (NSW) has today launched a Buy Rainbow campaign calling on people across NSW to support LGBTQIA+ owned and operated businesses through their purchases, bookings, recommendations and everyday choices.

Launching at the start of NSW Small Business Month, the campaign invites everyone to make a simple pledge: “I will Buy Rainbow. Will you?”

PBA President Jarrod Lomas said the campaign was about bringing more customers, connections and opportunities to LGBTQIA+ businesses.

“Your next coffee, haircut, holiday or professional service is an opportunity to back someone in our community,” Lomas said.

“We’re asking people to make a conscious choice about who they buy from, who they book and who they recommend. Try a business you haven’t visited before. Introduce a business owner to a potential client. If you’ve had a great experience, tell someone and go back.”

The campaign features six shareable pledges, each encouraging a practical action:

  • “I will buy rainbow.” Choose LGBTQIA+ owned and operated businesses.
  • “I will book rainbow.” Consider an LGBTQIA+ business for your next booking.
  • “I will discover rainbow.” Find a new café, restaurant, shop or service.
  • “I will share the love.” Recommend an LGBTQIA+ business you love.
  • “I will open doors.” Connect a business with someone who needs what it offers.
  • “I will come back.” Make supporting LGBTQIA+ businesses an everyday habit.

People are encouraged to share their chosen pledge, tag a favourite LGBTQIA+ business and explore the PBA’s Business Directory at pba.org.au/business-directory.

“A recommendation costs nothing. An introduction can open a door that a business owner couldn’t open alone. Everyone has something they can contribute,” Lomas said.

“We want October to be the start of a lasting habit. Discover a business, become a customer and help other people find them too.”

The PBA is also calling on the community to put its pledge into action at Buy Rainbow, Sydney’s LGBTQIA+ Small Business Fair, on Saturday 17 October, from 10am to 4pm at Rydges World Square.

Supported by the City of Sydney, the free event showcases LGBTQIA+ owned and operated businesses, giving visitors the opportunity to meet business owners, explore products and services, shop and make new connections.

“Bring a friend, meet the people behind the businesses and discover what our community has to offer,” Lomas said.

“Everyone is welcome at Buy Rainbow. Come along on 17 October, support the businesses you meet and keep them in mind the next time you need a product, a service or a recommendation.”
