There’s something special about wandering through Sydney’s inner west. The mix of old sandstone terraces, harbour glimpses, and leafy streets that seem to hum with history and heart. Today’s Pride Business Association Walk & Lunch did just that, taking a relaxed loop through one of the city’s most character-filled suburbs: Balmain.

A Sunday Stroll with Community
Our group gathered at Balmain East Wharf, coffee in hand and smiles all around, ready to set off on an easy-going route led by PBA Memberships Director Mark Morrison. From the wharf, we meandered along Darling Street, chatting and catching up as we made our way toward Mort Bay Park and the breezy expanse of Ballast Point Park.
The loop continued around Birchgrove Oval and Elkington Park, where glimpses of the harbour sparked more conversation about Sydney’s beauty, past and present. The walk took us through backstreets lined with terraces and cottages — each one a reminder of Balmain’s working-class roots and creative spirit.

As always, there were plenty of laughs and shared stories among attendees, including Kevin Yap, Arthur Dann, Sherwin Silva, PBA Secretary and Public Officer Leah Pieris among others.

Why We Walk
These monthly walks aren’t just about exercise or sightseeing, they’re about connection. Each PBA Walk & Lunch is designed to give LGBTQIA+ professionals space to build relationships outside the usual structure of business events. No name tags or speeches — just genuine conversation, visibility, and community care.
It’s about showing up for one another in simple but powerful ways — because sometimes, the best networking happens while walking side by side.
Wrapping Up at The London
After looping back to Darling Street, the group settled into The London Hotel, a Balmain institution, for a well-earned lunch. Over meals and drinks, the conversation continued with ideas shared, plans made, and friendships deepened.
